What is E-Liquid?

E-Liquid, also known as Vape Juice, E-Juice, or Vape Liquid, is the liquid that is used by your vape kit to turn into vapour. E-Liquid is placed in the tank or pod, absorbed into the cotton within a coil, then this coil is heated, which turns e-liquid into vapour, which you inhale and exhale. This liquid is comprised of four main ingredients: Vegetable Glycerine (VG), Propylene Glycol (PG), Food Grade Flavouring and Nicotine.

What nicotine strength should I choose?

The right strength depends on how much you currently smoke or vape and the type of device you’re using:

  • Higher strengths (10–20mg nic salts or 12–18mg freebase) – Often chosen by heavier smokers moving over to vaping who need a stronger, smoother hit in a compact device.
  • Medium strengths (6–12mg) – A popular choice for moderate smokers or vapers who want a noticeable throat hit without it feeling too strong.
  • Lower strengths (0–6mg) – Ideal for lighter smokers or vapers who have already reduced their nicotine and just want a gentle hit or no nicotine at all.

These are only general guidelines for adult smokers and vapers – if you’re unsure what’s best for you, it can help to start at a moderate strength and adjust up or down, or speak to a healthcare professional for personalised advice. E-liquids containing nicotine are for adults only and are not suitable for non-smokers.

What’s the difference between 50/50, high VG and nic salts?
  • 50/50 e-liquids – A balanced blend of PG and VG, usually in 10ml bottles. They offer a good mix of flavour, throat hit and vapour and work best in starter kits, pod systems and mouth-to-lung devices.
  • High VG e-liquids (e.g. 70VG) – Thicker liquids designed for sub ohm tanks and more powerful devices. They produce bigger clouds and a smoother inhale, and are usually sold as shortfills (larger bottles you add nic shots to).
  • Nicotine salts (nic salts) – Specially formulated to deliver nicotine in a smoother, faster way at higher strengths (typically 10mg or 20mg) without a harsh throat hit. Perfect for compact pod kits and recent ex-smokers who need a satisfying nicotine level.

If you’re using a smaller starter kit or pod system, 50/50 or nic salts are usually the best choice. For larger sub ohm kits, go for high VG shortfills.

Can I use any e-liquid in any vape kit?

Not quite. Different devices are designed for different types of e-liquid:

  • Mouth-to-lung and pod kits – Generally work best with thinner 50/50 or nic salt e-liquids in lower wattage.
  • Sub ohm kits and larger tanks – Designed for thicker high VG e-liquids (usually 70VG and above) at higher wattage.

Using an e-liquid that’s too thick in a small kit can cause weak flavour and wicking issues, while using a thin high-nicotine e-liquid in a powerful sub ohm device can feel too harsh. How long does a bottle of e-liquid last?

It varies from person to person, but as a rough guide:

  • A 10ml bottle can last anywhere from 1 to 3 days for an average vaper, depending on how frequently you vape and the power of your device.
  • Larger shortfill bottles (50ml, 100ml, 200ml, 500ml) are designed to last longer and offer better value if you’ve found flavours you love.

Heavier vapers using high-wattage sub ohm kits will go through more e-liquid than lighter users on low-wattage pod systems.
