RTA, RDA and RDTA Explained

An RTA (rebuildable tank atomiser) holds e-liquid in a tank like a standard sub ohm tank, but uses a build deck where you fit your own coil and cotton. An RDA (rebuildable dripping atomiser) has no tank: you drip e-liquid straight onto the cotton, which gives intense flavour and makes it easy to switch e-liquids. Squonk-compatible RDAs can be fed from a bottle inside a squonk mod. An RDTA combines the two, with a build deck sitting directly above a small tank.

Is an RTA Better Than a Sub Ohm Tank?

Neither is better overall. A sub ohm tank uses ready-made coils you simply swap in, which is quick and convenient. An RTA takes more time and knowledge, but lets you fine-tune the build for flavour or vapour, and coil wire and cotton cost less over time than pre-made coils. Many vapers move to rebuildables once they're comfortable with sub ohm vaping.

What You'll Need

To build in a rebuildable, you'll need coil wire or pre-made rebuildable coils, wicking cotton and a few vape tools such as a coil jig, ceramic tweezers and a resistance checker. Most rebuildables are used with regulated vape mods and higher-VG shortfills.

Single or Dual Coil, Top or Bottom Airflow

Single-coil decks are simpler to build and use less power and e-liquid, which suits flavour-focused and MTL rebuildables. Dual-coil decks produce more vapour but need more power. Bottom airflow usually gives the best flavour, while top airflow helps prevent leaks.
