What Is Vape Liquid?

E-liquid, also called vape liquid, vape juice or e-juice, is the liquid your vape turns into vapour. It's held in your tank or pod and soaks into the cotton in the coil. When the coil heats up, the e-liquid becomes vapour, which you inhale. Most e-liquids are made from vegetable glycerine (VG), propylene glycol (PG) and food-grade flavourings, with nicotine added if you choose it. In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is sold in bottles of up to 10ml, at a maximum strength of 20mg/ml.

Types of E-Liquid

Nic salts use a form of nicotine that gives a smoother hit at higher strengths, usually 10mg or 20mg. They suit compact pod kits and are popular with people who have recently switched from smoking. 10ml e-liquids are freebase, ready to vape, and typically 50/50, for starter kits and mouth-to-lung devices. Shortfills are larger, nicotine-free bottles, usually high-VG, with space to add nicotine shots. They suit sub ohm kits.

Choosing a Strength

The right strength depends on how much you currently smoke or vape, and on your device. As a general guide, higher strengths (10mg to 20mg nic salts, or 12mg to 18mg freebase) are often chosen by heavier smokers moving to vaping. Medium strengths (6mg to 12mg) suit moderate smokers and vapers. Lower strengths (0mg to 6mg) suit lighter users or people who have already reduced their nicotine. If you're unsure, start at a moderate strength and adjust. Our guide to choosing a vape liquid strength goes into more detail.

Matching E-Liquid to Your Device

Mouth-to-lung and pod kits work best with thinner 50/50 or nic salt e-liquids at lower power. Sub ohm kits and larger tanks are designed for thicker, high-VG e-liquids at higher power. E-liquid that's too thick for a small kit can cause weak flavour and dry hits, while a thin, high-nicotine e-liquid in a powerful sub ohm kit can feel harsh. Our beginner's guide to VG and PG explains why.

E-Liquid Flavours

Browse by flavour: fruit, menthol and ice, dessert, tobacco, sweets and candy and drink-inspired e-liquids. Use the filters to narrow by brand, strength, bottle size and VG/PG ratio.

What is vape liquid?

Vape liquid, also called e-liquid or vape juice, is the liquid a vape heats into vapour. It's usually made from VG, PG and flavourings, with nicotine added if you choose it.

What strength of e-liquid should I choose?

It depends on how much you smoke or vape. Heavier smokers often start with 10mg to 20mg nic salts, moderate users with 6mg to 12mg, and lighter users with 0mg to 6mg. You can adjust up or down over time.

How do I know vape juice is safe to buy in the UK?

Buy from an established UK retailer selling compliant products. Nicotine e-liquid sold legally in the UK must be notified to the MHRA, sold in bottles of up to 10ml, and contain no more than 20mg/ml of nicotine. From 1 April 2027, every vaping product must also carry a vaping duty stamp. All of our e-liquids come from reputable manufacturers and official distributors.

Can I use any e-liquid in any vape?

Not quite. Pod kits and mouth-to-lung devices suit 50/50 and nic salt e-liquids, while sub ohm kits suit high-VG shortfills. Check your device's coil resistance and recommended e-liquid.

What's the difference between nic salts and freebase e-liquid?

Nic salts deliver nicotine more smoothly at higher strengths, so they suit pod kits. Freebase e-liquid gives a more traditional throat hit and is usually sold at lower strengths for a wider range of devices.

How long does a 10ml bottle of e-liquid last?

It varies with how often you vape and your device. As a rough guide, a 10ml bottle lasts an average vaper one to three days, and much less in a high-powered sub ohm kit.
