What is a Shortfill E-Liquid?

Shortfill E-Liquids are a popular, bulk option of purchasing e-liquid. This type of e-liquid became popular after the introduction of the TPD (Tobacco Products Directive), which limits the sale of e-liquid that contains nicotine to a volume of 10ml. As a workaround, Shortfills came to prominence, as they contain zero nicotine, allowing large amounts of nicotine free e-liquid to be sold.

The name Shortfill comes from the bottle being filled to 80% of its total capacity, which allows for the addition of nicotine shots. You’ll find a wide range of shortfill sizes available, starting with 50ml and going as high as 500ml bottles. Most shortfill e-liquids are available in a 70VG:30PG ratio, making them excellent for sub-ohm vaping, however more and more shortfills are becoming available in 50VG:50PG ratios, making them suitable for pod kits and lower wattage devices too.

Which nicotine strength should I choose?

As a rough guide:

  • If you smoke up to 5–10 cigarettes a day, try 5mg–10mg nic salts.
  • If you smoke 10–20 cigarettes a day, 10mg or 20mg usually works well.
  • If you smoke 20+ cigarettes a day, you may prefer 20mg nic salts to begin with.

Everyone’s different, so treat this as a starting point – if you still crave cigarettes, you may need a higher strength; if you feel light-headed or it’s too strong, drop down.
