Understanding 18650 vape batteries

Two numbers tell you what a battery can do:

  • mAh (capacity) - how long the cell lasts between charges. A 3500mAh cell runs longer than a 2500mAh one, but often at a slightly lower amp rating.
  • A / CDR (continuous discharge rating) - the maximum safe current the cell can deliver. For sub ohm and high-wattage vaping you want a high-drain cell (typically 25A–40A). Never build or vape below a battery's safe amp limit.

As a rule of thumb: lower-resistance coils and higher wattage need higher-amp cells; if you mostly vape at modest power, a higher-mAh cell gives you longer runtime.

Battery safety

Always use married pairs (bought together, charged together, used together) in dual-battery mods, replace any cell with a damaged wrap, and carry spares in a case rather than loose. Charge on a dedicated vape battery charger, not overnight and not unattended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does mAh mean on a vape battery?

mAh is the battery's capacity - higher mAh means longer runtime between charges. A 3500mAh cell lasts longer than a 2500mAh one.

What amp rating do I need for sub ohm vaping?

Use a high-drain cell rated for the current your build pulls - typically 25A–40A. Always stay within the battery's continuous discharge rating (CDR).

Which 18650 battery is best for my mod?

Match the cell to how you vape: high-amp cells (35A–40A) for low-resistance, high-wattage builds; higher-mAh cells for longer runtime at moderate power.

Do I need married pairs in a dual-battery mod?

Yes — use two identical cells bought, charged and used together. Mixing batteries of different age or charge is unsafe.
