Vape Tanks

A vape tank holds your e-liquid and the coil that heats it, and plays a big part in the flavour and vapour your setup produces. Browse mouth-to-lung tanks, sub ohm tanks and rebuildable tanks from brands including Aspire, Uwell, GeekVape, Innokin, SMOK and FreeMax.

MTL vs Sub Ohm Tanks

Mouth-to-lung (MTL) tanks have tighter airflow and coils that are usually rated above 1.0Ω. They are designed for a cigarette-style draw and work well with nic salts and 50/50 e-liquids. Sub ohm tanks use coils below 1.0Ω and more open airflow for direct-to-lung vaping with bigger clouds, and are usually paired with higher-VG shortfills. Our guide to MTL and DTL vaping explains the difference.

How a Vape Tank Works and Key Features

Inside every tank, a coil sits in a wick that soaks up e-liquid from the tank. When you fire the device, the coil heats the e-liquid and turns it into vapour, which you draw through the drip tip. Features to compare include top-fill designs, which make refilling quicker and cleaner, adjustable airflow for a tighter or looser draw, the drip tip size and style, and the coil range the tank accepts.

Coils, Glass and Compatibility

Most tanks use pre-built replacement coils that are specific to each tank range, so check which coils a tank takes before you buy. Rebuildable tanks let you build your own coils instead. UK-compliant tanks hold up to 2ml of nicotine-containing e-liquid. Spare and extended replacement glass is available for many models. Most tanks use a standard 510 thread to fit vape mods and kits.

Looking After Your Tank

Regular cleaning keeps flavour fresh and helps prevent leaks. Follow our illustrated tank cleaning guide, see why your vape might be leaking, and check when to replace your tank glass.

What is the difference between an MTL and a sub ohm tank?

MTL tanks have tighter airflow and higher-resistance coils for a cigarette-style draw and suit nic salts and 50/50 e-liquids. Sub ohm tanks have open airflow and coils below 1.0Ω for direct-to-lung vaping with high-VG e-liquids.

Will a vape tank fit my mod?

Most tanks use a 510 connection, which fits the majority of vape mods. Check that the tank's diameter suits your mod's top cap, and that the mod can deliver the power range recommended for the tank's coils.

Which coils does my tank use?

Coils are usually specific to a tank range. Each tank's product page lists its compatible coils, and you can browse replacement coils by brand.

Why is my vape tank leaking?

Common causes include a worn or loose seal, a cracked glass, a flooded coil or e-liquid that's too thin for the coil. Our guide to why your vape is leaking walks through each fix.

How do I fill a vape tank?

Most modern tanks are top-fill: slide or unscrew the top cap and fill through the port, aiming the e-liquid down the side of the glass rather than into the centre tube. Leave a small air gap at the top, and if you've fitted a new coil, wait a few minutes so the wick can soak before vaping.

Can I use any e-liquid in a vape tank?

Match the e-liquid to the tank. MTL tanks suit nic salts and 50/50 e-liquids, while sub ohm tanks work best with higher-VG shortfills. Using thin e-liquid in a sub ohm tank can cause leaking, and very thick e-liquid in an MTL tank can lead to dry hits.
